About Cochlear Implant programme
State of the art technology available at present to overcome the handicap of deaf mute in young children, born with congenital profound sensory neural hearing loss.
Incidence of children with profound sensorineural hearing loss - 1 in 1000 live births.
Earlier,the implantees need to go to Chennai to get operated and get audio verbal training for one year.This has been overcome by the introduction of cochlear implant programme in KGMCH.

AUDIOLOGY
State of the art complete sound proof twin room was made ready
A complete audiological battery of tests like Digital pure tone audiometry,Impedence audiometry, Oto Acoustic Emission and Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry were fully functional.
Trained staff were ready

Special surgical instruments for CI
AUDIO VERBAL TRAINING
Facilities for one year intensive audio verbal training for the implantees with trained speech therapist were made ready.
2015 – PERMISSION FROM TNHSP & CMCHIS
Inspection done by CMCHIS team
Got approved as a Authorized Cochlear Implant centre by TNHSP & CMCHIS
KGMCH was the third CI centre to get authorized next to Madras Medical College, Chennai and Coimbatore Medical College, Coimbatore among the Government Medical Institutes.
2015 – FIRST CI SURGERY

Three cases were operated and Cochlear Implant fixed successfully under the mentorship and guidance of Padmashree Prof. Mohan Kameshwaran.

Switching on of the implants and kids started to hear the new sense – hearing in their life for first time
